    Uninsured Motorist Fees to Expire

All Virginia drivers will soon be required to have auto insurance in order to drive on Virginia roadways. Recent legislation passed in this year’s General Assembly repealed allowing uninsured drivers to simply pay a $500 uninsured motorist fee. Those uninsured drivers who cause injury to others on the roadway do not have the insurance to pay damages to those they injure. The new law prevents this from happening when all uninsured registrations expire July 1, 2024. After that date, all drivers will be required to have auto insurance in order to pay for damages caused to those who are injured through no fault of their own. Justice is well served by this new legislation.
